The alarming predictions of recent decades on the issue of climate change have nowadays taken on discussions and manifestations of all kinds, but yet they cannot open the eyes of those who do not want to see; it is like a cloud of mental pollution, and as a rule blind to this situation are the vast majority of politicians conniving with the status quo, some scientists requiring only scientific evidences, passed in the notary's offices with the proper approval of the great scientists and scientific magazines and even ecclesiastical certification to attest to these changes; the exercise of intuition in science is still the privilege of the few ... Einstein would say! And thus, further contributing to the devastation, the amorphous mass of citizens who crawl across the barren plains of their ignorance and mediocrity.
October 4, 1957 marked the beginning of the Space Age, with the launch of the successful Sputnik, the first artificial satellite placed in Earth's orbit. Very modest when compared to current standards, Sputnik kicked off space exploration and discovery, which today contributes to the millions of tons of junk in the form of fantastic machines surrounding the Earth's orb.
At this time, at the age of 10, and moved by the great fanfare over this first space adventure, I enjoyed spending few hours at night, lying in the backyard of my home in Sao Paulo, Brazil, admiring the slow journey of this brilliant speck of light crossing the zenith. That is, when the rarely starry nights of that huge city let the pilgrimage of it to be seen. As a rule, they were covered by a fine drizzle which precipitated through the city and surrounding areas. Sao Paulo was famous for the drizzle, and it became a historical buzzword, but it had an ephemeral life. The drizzle disappeared from the city scene a few years later, precisely motivated by the onset of environment devastation all over the country.
To my surprise, at age 47, I saw the drizzle again, but in Sydney, Australia, in the country where I migrated. However, this same drizzle here is reluctant to appear. If it is not the mist mingled with the smoke of the bush fires, the pollution, are the winds bringing desert sand or even storms covering the sky with a faint reddish yellow colour.
In such a short time, I would say 60 years, the damage done to the planet by human greed has not sensitized the ‘powerful’ ones and not even the masses. As I am not a scientist, but an observer of the facts, and a warning agent, I do not think that even the two-stage Industrial Revolution in England, which lasted nearly 70 years, caused such destruction. And yet England, which suffered the destruction of the environment in its own soil, openly manifests itself against what it has caused ... has not set an example for the world!
The culture of devastation has become endemic.
And with that, it makes me think that the humanity known today is by no means "made in the image and likeness of God," to which Genesis refers. The "crown of creation" cannot be seen in man - in this slightly intellectualized bipedal animal from the neck up, whose intelligence has made him the most dangerous animal on planet Earth. The intellectualization of instinct made man a monster of greed and aggression, whose claws and teeth were perfected in the form of weapons of mass destruction and consequently of the environment; this intellectualization has made man a disgusting caricature of libertine sexualism and a hell of physical and mental illness that no other nonhuman animal knows or has experienced.
From time to time, some individual human being appears that resembles a reflection of reason - but this human represents an infinitesimal portion of total humanity.
And it sprang up like a fuss ... a shy young girl of only sixteen, Swedish by birth, but a global citizen named Greta Thunberg, who came to try to awaken from the secular sleep the sly, worm-ridden, sleepy elders of the status quo, who are still refuting and demanding proof, that the environment of the planet is changing!
To add more nonsense to this whole issue, one more politician of the status quo, Mr. Scott Morrison, the Australian Prime Minister, comes up on the podium, criticizing the shy young girl's stance, saying that these criticisms and warnings from her will only intensify in the minds of the youth of the world, an evil expectation, an evil anxiety about the future!
But he is just a politician ... lacking knowledge of Philosophy, in which Psychology is embedded, or conveniently forgetting these concepts to satisfy the interest of his group. In the young, when the clock of ego and free will wakes up, nothing stops the beat of these hours. A young mind can already discern right from wrong. And as much as one criticizes youthful postures, their minds are not alienated. The vast majority may even be, as they are a product of the system. According to our pseudo culture standardized by this system, of which Mr. Morrison is one of the agents who thinks that no one else has the right to be itself, but who has to become who others are. The idolatry of dazzling emptiness has reached its climax in the face of such profane popularity in the so-called modern man's culture, which shows that he has abdicated his personality and become an amorphous figure in the midst of the amorphous mass and living only the emptiness of a very busy life.
But there is the awakening!
Puppets play a stage role, but behind the puppet is a skilled conscience and hands which manipulates them. And there are many skillful hands ... where the princes of this world have no power.
Recently, while posting articles on my blog, I read an interesting warning from the research scientist on abrupt climate change, Professor Katrin J Meissner of Australia's renowned University of New South Wales, who has been studying climate change for over 20 years, claiming that this phenomenon is a fact, based on scientific equations and data ... pure science and not political fiction!
According to her, CO2 concentrations are increasing in alarming proportions, which is 10 to 100 times faster than at any other time in human history, that is, of the last three million years, when the first humans were roaming around the Earth. And that catastrophic consequences are approaching at the same speed, given the large number of living species that are becoming extinct on the planet.
Since we are part of an entire ecosystem for our survival, the destruction of that ecosystem represents the destruction of human life on Earth too!
And she warns: "The question is not to believe in climate change, but to understand climate change. Greta Thunberg is just a messenger, and no matter what we think about her, what matters is that we should act now, without further loss of time," concluding with a vehement request: "Do not crucify the messenger."
"The future depends on what we do today". Mahatma Gandhi
