ANANDA’S QUESTION

The title above is part of one of the innumerable legends of Indian Buddhism passed down by generations of devotees over the centuries around its main figure, Prince Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, the Enlightened One.

Due to his closeness to the Buddha, Ananda was assigned one of the main disciples as well as a personal companion, following him in most pilgrimages as interlocutor of the dialogues with others, receiving by this devotion the nickname: The Guardian of the Laws created by the Cosmic Powers.

 

On one of these pilgrimages, following the Master and having Ananda the perfect sharpness of mind and inquirer about the struggles for self-knowledge and self-realization, exhaustively taught by the Buddha, he asks him a question:

 

--- “Master, knowing that you are a sagacious man, so detached and full of virtues, yet the vast majority of men are still drowning in the waters of the Ocean of Mediocrity, suffering so much; why not share your wisdom to place them above the pains of the world, freeing them from desires?

 

And Buddha, drawing a silent smile, responds:

 

--- Ananda, do you know the small village located nearby?

 

--- Yes, Master, I know where it is.

 

--- Well, I'd like you to go there and do me a favour.

 

--- Of course, Master, what do you want me to do?

 

--- I need you to ask the people in charge of each house, what they desire to have and bring me the answers.

 

And there goes Ananda to fulfil what the Master asked for!

 

This task cost him a whole day, gathering information and requests sketched by all. And at the end of the afternoon, with the sun already setting down, Ananda appears in front of the Master, presenting the result of his work.

 

--- And then Ananda, did you ask everyone?

 

--- Yes, Master. I have the result here.

 

--- Master, the vast majority of them asked for material goods that would allow them to live a more comfortable life with decent houses to live in, to have good health, to have their children well married, to have longer lives.

 

--- But, Ananda... does Buddha ask with a look of apprehension? How many said they would like to have more wisdom?

 

--- No Master, no one asked me about it!

 

--- Ananda... how do you want me to give something to men if they do not ask me to receive it? How can I distribute wisdom if none of them has the desire to receive this gift?”

 

That is, it is not enough that there is a Master prepared to offer wisdom; there must be men receptive to receive it. When one does not desire wisdom, even though it spreads throughout the world, it will be like a flower that anyone will not collect.

 

This same concept applies to the idea of someone wanting to be a philosopher, a good one, but no one can force someone to be a philosopher... or a good midwife, but this midwife will never be able to give birth to a woman who is not pregnant.

 

It is not possible to give birth to something that is not developed, that is not expected, that is not desired. Only after a long period of incubation is when the dormant wisdom in man does it eventually come into the light, suppose that this man desires it, seek it and face the stony paths of the journey of renunciation!

A SOLUÇÃO DEFINITIVA DE TODOS OS PROBLEMAS

Essa solução resume-se mais ou menos, nos seguintes termos:  Homem, renuncia ao Eu pessoal e submerge no Nós universal – esse nós que, em seu primeiro estágio, se chama Humanidade, e, no último estágio, Deus.

 

No entanto, para se beneficiar dessa solução, é fundamental vivenciar os dois primeiros mandamentos: o primeiro do amor a Deus, e o segundo do amor ao próximo.  Mas, na execução prática do dia a dia, temos que começar pelo segundo, que é o mandamento da ética, a fim de atingirmos o primeiro, que é o mandamento da mística.  Uma vez passado pela mística, a ética difícil e compulsória se transforma em ética fácil e espontânea – e então está solucionado o último problema da vida humana.

 

Para atingir essa meta, o homem deve observar o seguinte:

 

---   Não exijas nada – sempre estejas pronto para tudo!

---   Não reclames direitos – cumpre somente obrigações!

---   Não te julgues credor de alguém – considera-te devedor de todos!

---   Não te delicies em perdoar ofensas – ignore-as!

---   Não procures receber e ser servido – dá e serve onde puderes!

---   Mantém dentro de ti um clima de serena tranquilidade que se revele em suave benevolência para com todas as creaturas de Deus!

---   Realiza com perfeição e amor todos os teus trabalhos, sem jamais esperar reconhecimento, aplausos, gratidão, nem aguardares resultados visíveis!

 

Se assim fizeres, com certeza o teu ego adâmico protestará, indignado, afirmando que a tua vida é um absurdo e que tu és um tolo; pois, como poderias renunciar ao maior triunfo de milhares e milhões de anos de evolução, que é o teu ego?  Que valor a tua vida ainda teria sem os encantos do ego, que se nutre de elogios, aplausos e resultados palpáveis dos seus trabalhos?

 

Mas não te esqueças, meu caro amigo, que esse protesto é o protesto de um cego ou de um míope.  O teu ego é incapaz de perceber que, na realidade, essa “renúncia” não é uma perda, mas sim um lucro, não um menos, mas um mais; entregas 10 para receberes 100.  O ego, porém, devido à sua insignificância, não percebe que o 10 está contido no 100, e que o 100 é uma gloriosa ambição do 10!

 

O Eu crístico e divino em ti sabe dessa matemática cósmica, que o ego humano ignora.  Por isto, esse Eu tem que se manter firme e inabalável, no meio de todos os protestos, porque o ego se beneficia quando ele é dirigido pelo Eu, pois assim ganha em vez de perder.

 

---   É o maravilhoso, morrer e tornar-se - “Stirb und werde!” de Goethe.

---   É o glorioso “Se o grão de trigo não morrer...” de Jesus.

LA DEFINITIVA SOLUCIÓN DE TODOS LOS PROBLEMAS

Aparentemente, esta solución se resume de la siguiente manera: hombre, renuncia a su Yo personal y se sumerge en el Nosotros universal, este nosotros que en su primera etapa se llama Humanidad y en la última etapa… Dios.

Sin embargo, para ser beneficiario de esta solución, es fundamental experimentar los dos primeros mandamientos: el primero, amar a Dios y el segundo, amar al prójimo. Pero en la práctica diaria, debemos partir del segundo, que es el mandamiento de la ética para lograr el primero, que es el mandamiento de la mística. Cuando se logra la mística, la ética difícil y obligatoria se vuelve fácil y espontánea, y luego se resuelve el último problema de la vida humana.

 

Para lograr este objetivo, el hombre debe prestar atención a lo siguiente:

 

--- No exija nada - ¡esté siempre preparado para cualquier cosa!

--- No pidas derechos, ¡cumple solo obligaciones!

--- No se juzgue a sí mismo como el acreedor de alguien - ¡considérese deudor de todos!

--- No disfrutes perdonando ofensas - ¡ignóralas!

--- No busques recibir y ser servido - ¡da y sirve donde puedas!

--- ¡Mantén en tu interior un ambiente de serena tranquilidad que resulta ser una dulce benevolencia para todas las criaturas de Dios!

 --- ¡Realiza con perfección y ama todas tus tareas sin esperar reconocimiento, aplauso, gratitud ni resultados visibles!

 

Al hacerlo, tu ego adámico seguramente protestará, indignado, afirmando que tu vida es absurda y que eres un tonto; porque ¿cómo pudiste renunciar al mayor triunfo de miles y millones de años de evolución, que es tu ego? ¿Qué valor tendría tu vida sin los encantos del ego que se nutre de elogios, aplausos y resultados tangibles de tus tareas?

 

Pero no olvide mi querido amigo que esta protesta es la protesta de un ciego o miope. Tu ego es incapaz de darse cuenta de que esta “renuncia” no es una pérdida sino una ganancia; de hecho, das 10 para recibir 100. El ego, debido a su insignificancia, no se da cuenta de que 10 está contenido en 100, ¡y este 100 es una ambición gloriosa del 10!

 

El Yo esencial divino y crístico que hay en ti conoce esas matemáticas cósmicas, que el ego humano ignora. Por lo tanto, este Yo debe permanecer firme durante todas las protestas, porque el ego es un beneficiario cuando está gobernado por el Yo, y al hacerlo, gana en lugar de perder.

 

--- ¡Es lo maravilloso, muere y conviértete en “Stirb und werde!” según Goethe.

--- Es el glorioso “Si el grano de trigo no muere ...” de Jesús.

THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION TO ALL PROBLEMS

This solution is apparently summarized as follows: Man, renounces to your personal Self and immerses yourself into the universal Us - this us which in its first stage is called Humanity and in the last one… God.

However, it is fundamental to experience the first two commandments to benefit from this solution: the first, to love God and the second, to love your fellow humans. But in daily practice, we must begin from the second, which is the commandment of ethics, to achieve the first, which is the commandment of mystics. When the mystique is achieved, the difficult and compulsory ethics becomes easy and spontaneous - and then it is solved the last problem of human life.

 

To achieve this goal, the man must pay attention to the following:

 

---   Demand nothing - always be ready for anything!

---   Do not ask for rights - fulfil only obligations!

---   Do not judge yourself as someone's creditor - consider yourself debtor of all!

---   Do not enjoy forgiving offences - ignore them!

---   Do not seek to receive and be served - give and serve wherever you can!

---   Keep within you an environment of serene tranquillity which proves to be a sweet benevolence to all creatures of God!

---   Perform with perfection and love all your tasks without expecting recognition, applause, gratitude, nor visible results!

 

In doing this way, your Adamic ego will surely protest, indignant, stating that your life is absurd and that you are a fool; for how could you renounce to the greatest triumph of thousands and millions of years of evolution, which is your ego? What value would your life have without the enchantments of the ego, which is nourished by praise, applause and tangible results of your tasks?

 

But do not forget, my dear friend, that this protest is the protest of a blind or short-sighted one. Your narrow-minded tyrannical ego cannot realize that this “renunciation” is not a loss but a profit; in fact, you give 10 to receive 100. Due to its insignificance, the ego does not realize that 10 is contained in 100, and this 100 is a glorious ambition of the 10!

 

The Christlike Divine Self in you knows of that cosmic mathematics, which the human ego ignores. Therefore, this Self must remain firm and steadfast during all protests because the ego is a beneficiary when governed by the Self and gains rather than loses.

 

---   It is the wonderful, die and become “Stirb und werde!” according to Goethe.

---   It is the glorious “Unless a grain of wheat does not die...” of Jesus.

EU SOU A REALIDADE ESPIRITUAL INDIVIDUAL QUE VEIO DA REALIDADE UNIVERSAL

Evolver espiritualmente consiste essencialmente nisso: saber quem Eu sou. Não em saber o que eu tenho.

O que eu tenho, minhas possessões materiais, são as coisas do meu ego, mas eu sou somente o meu Eu. O que eu tenho de coisas materiais não sou eu; essas materialidades apenas refletem um pouco de minha personalidade. Quando eu chego à consciência de quem sou Eu, eu sei com absoluta certeza que eu sou a realidade espiritual individual que veio da Realidade Universal. O que Eu sou é o que é verdadeiro, no entanto, eu ainda tenho esse ego material, emocional, mas isto eu apenas tenho, mas que não sou eu.

Quando o homem chega a compreender a plena consciência do seu Eu espiritual divino, o seu ter não lhe causa nenhuma dificuldade. A dificuldade reside enquanto não se está na plenitude do Eu, e o homem que não vive essa plenitude, todas as suas possessões materiais, tudo o que o homem possui no seu ego físico, mental e emocional, lhe causa dificuldade. No entanto, essa dificuldade diminui na razão direta em que o homem vai evolvendo rumo ao Eu.

Ego é ter, Eu é ser.

YO SOY LA REALIDAD ESPIRITUAL INDIVIDUAL QUE SURGIÓ DE LA REALIDAD UNIVERSAL

Evolucionar espiritualmente consiste esencialmente en esto: saber quién soy Yo. No saber lo que tengo.

Lo que tengo, mis posesiones materiales, son las cosas de mi ego, pero solo soy mi Yo. No soy los bienes materiales que tengo; estas materialidades reflejan solo un poco de mi personalidad. Cuando llego a la conciencia de quién soy Yo, sé con absoluta certeza que soy la realidad espiritual individual que vino de la Realidad Universal. Lo que soy es lo que es verdad, sin embargo, todavía tengo este ego material, emocional, pero solo tengo esto, que no soy Yo.

Cuando un hombre llega a comprender la plena conciencia de su Yo espiritual divino, lo que tiene no le causa ninguna dificultad. La dificultad radica en que no se encuentra en la plenitud del Yo, y el hombre que no vive esa plenitud, todas sus posesiones materiales, todo lo que el hombre tiene en su ego físico, mental y emocional, le causan dificultad. Sin embargo, esta dificultad disminuye en la razón directa por la que el hombre evoluciona hacia el Yo.

El ego es tener, el Yo es ser.

I AM THE INDIVIDUAL SPIRITUAL REALITY WHO CAME FROM THE UNIVERSAL REALITY

To evolve spiritually, one must know who am I. My material possessions are my ego, but I am only my Self. I am not the material goods I have; these are my personality only. When I come to the consciousness of who I am, I know I am the individual spiritual reality from the Universal Reality. What I am is true; however, I still have this material, emotional ego, but this I have, which is not me.

When a man comprehends the full consciousness of his divine spiritual Self, what he has does not cause any difficulty. The difficulty lies while he is not in the plenitude of the Self. The man who does not live that fullness, all his material possessions, everything that man has in his physical, mental and emotional ego, cause him difficulty. However, this difficulty diminishes in the direct reason in which man evolves towards the Self.

Ego is having, Self is being.

When a man comprehends the full consciousness of his divine spiritual Self, what he has does not cause any difficulty. The difficulty lies while he is not in the plenitude of the Self. The man who does not live that fullness, all his material possessions, everything that man has in his physical, mental and emotional ego, cause him difficulty.
