Countless books have been written about Christ.
Love without measure has been sworn to
Christ.
And yet, eternally enigmatic is the
reason for this fascination with Christ.
And what is the reason for this
fascination?
Every man is unconsciously what the
Christ consciously is - and what he potentially is.
The fascination one feels before Christ
is the vision of the human Self if it were fully realized.
That Self of the Christ within, always realizable,
always realizing, and never realized.
The human ego is fascinating compared
to the distant vision of the Christlike Self, just as the plant dormant in the
seed is fascinating.
Man feels the urge to be explicitly
what he is only implicitly, just as he contemplates his embryonic “divine
breath” in the adulthood of “God's image and likeness.” Glimpsing what he could
be and still isn't.
“Very truly, I tell you, whoever
believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even
greater things than these.”
Fascinating words!
They ring like bells on distant shores.
As invitations to a transcendental
solemnity.
Like love mingled with pain.
Like a dawn of light in a dark setting.
Christ-love is self-love in another
dimension.
It is to love the inner Christ in the
eternal Christ.
All self-love, which looks like
external love, is Divine love.
Now one glimpses in a mirror and enigma
what is expected to be found face to face.
The real fascination of Christ is a
self-fascination in the smallest potency.
It is an answer to the eternal
question: What is man?
